Noah P. Forden, BFA Board (Gas Division) Applicant

Gas ballooning in the US has seen a steady decline since the price of helium skyrocketed several years ago and I believe the BFA board has a role to play in turning this around. Identifying ways to make gas ballooning more accessible and affordable are key to this effort. One of the reasons our European counterparts fly more is because their gas cost is significantly lower than it is here in the US. I wrote a white paper identifying options to make gas ballooning more accessible and affordable by reducing the cost of H2 and opening new locations to launch and fly , and I have continued to pursue these efforts as a Gas Balloon Division board member, identifying affordable gas suppliers in Tennessee and West Virginia and working to establish suitable launch sites near these new gas sources. One achievement I’m proud to have accomplished with other Gas Division members is an update to the National Fire Protection Association Hydrogen Technologies Code (NFPA 2) to allow balloons to be inflated with hydrogen, which was previously disallowed in the fire codes. I am also working to improve Gas Ballooning electrical and communication systems, pioneering the use of reliable high speed internet service in Gas Balloons.

Highest Regards, Noah
